Introduction
In his profound sermon titled "Preserving Our Serenity," Apostle General Jannie Ngwale delivered a powerful message on the importance of maintaining peace amid life’s storms. He reminded the congregation that while mountains may shake and hills may be removed, God’s kindness and covenant of peace remain unshaken (Isaiah 54:10).
The Unshakable Peace of God
Apostle General emphasized that peace is not merely the absence of chaos but the presence of calmness within it. He highlighted that true peace comes from God, who is the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). While circumstances may threaten to disturb our serenity, God calls His people to stand firm and trust in His unchanging nature.
Jesus’ Call to Rest
Referring to Mark 6:31, Apostle General spoke about how Jesus, after sending His disciples on an intense evangelism mission, called them to retreat and rest. He urged the congregation to follow this divine principle, stating that without intentional moments of rest and reflection, we risk depletion and burnout.
He encouraged believers to take "sabbaticals"—not just a weekly day of rest but intentional pauses to recenter their hearts, restore their strength, and preserve their peace.
The Dangers of Losing Our Peace
The sermon delved into how peace can be lost:
Busyness and Overcommitment – Apostle General warned that constantly pouring ourselves into work, ministry, and others without replenishing can drain us spiritually, emotionally, and mentally.
Comparison and Competition – He pointed out that constantly comparing ourselves to others can lead to discontentment and anxiety. Instead, we must trust in God's unique plan for our lives.
Fear and Worry – Many people lose their peace because they fear the future, finances, or failure. However, Philippians 4:7 assures us that God’s peace surpasses all understanding and will guard our hearts and minds.
Peace in the Midst of Storms
Apostle General used the example of Jonah and the storm to illustrate that some storms come when we step outside of God’s will. Jonah’s disobedience led to turbulence, but his repentance restored his peace.
However, he also highlighted that some storms come even when we are in God’s will. The disciples experienced a storm while obeying Jesus’ command to go to the other side (Mark 4:35-41). Yet, in the middle of the chaos, Jesus declared, “Peace, be still,” and the storm ceased.
How to Preserve Your Serenity
Apostle General urged believers to practice the following to maintain divine peace:
✔️ Take time to rest – Pause, reset, and recharge in God's presence.
✔️ Trust in God’s promises – No matter the situation, God’s kindness will not depart from you.
✔️ Prioritize your spiritual well-being – Spend time in prayer and the Word of God.
✔️ Refuse to be disturbed by external noise – Protect your heart from negativity and anxiety.
A Final Encouragement
As the congregation stood in agreement, Apostle General boldly declared:
"Even when mountains shake, even when the world is in turmoil, the kindness of the Lord will not depart from you! The covenant of His peace will remain!"
May 2025 be a year where we walk in divine peace, trust in God's timing, and preserve our serenity.
